ABSTRACT

The treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with acquired brain injury are not homogeneous, even in rehabilitation centers within the same country. There are different brain injury rehabilitation centers offering different kinds of services and providing different degrees of efficiency. This chapter focuses on one of the models of rehabilitation of the multiple consequences that acquired brain injury can produce in an individual. To situate and understand models of rehabilitation, we are going to briefly review the main approaches to rehabilitation. There are three different models which focus on the treatment of people with brain injury: care programs, traditional programs, and holistic programs, as illustrated in Figure 20.1.(1) Our model (CRECER) corresponds to the last one.
