ABSTRACT

The term “Gaza Strip” dates from the last stages of the 1948 war between Israel and the Arabs. It received political validity in the 1949 Armistice Agreement between Israel and Egypt, when it was recognized as a separate entity under Egyptian supervision. The political existence of the Strip was terminated by the Six Day War in 1967, which brought it under Israeli military administration. The final decision about its future was made in 2004 by the Israeli government, which decided that an entire Jewish disengagement from the Gaza Strip will be carried out by the end of the year 2005.
