Artificial ventilation

Ventilation is the process by which gases move in and out of the lungs. When self-ventilation is, or is likely to be, inadequate due to disease or drugs, artificial ventilation may be required. Artificial ventilation may fully replace patient’s own ventilation, or support self-ventilation.
