ABSTRACT

Studying the security dilemma of Africa reminds one of two different works: Michel Foucault’s Archeology of Knowledge: layers of sediments are so distinct that one can easily observe the dividing lines; and Leo Hamon’s Acteurs et données de l’histoire (actors and givens of history): there are no permanent determining factors in historical evolution as it depends on the place and the time. Therefore, a central issue in one conflict may be secondary in another, and vice versa.
