ABSTRACT

The first of the preceding two chapters describes the elements of smallscale democracy covered by our research design. The second examines the interrelationship between these elements in an attempt to explain why people do or do not take action in order to influence their personal situation. These two chapters, however, intentionally leave some significant descriptive as well as explanatory questions unanswered. The purpose of this third, and final, chapter on small-scale democracy is to tie up these loose ends, a common denominator of which is that they call attention to the consequences of the actions citizens take in their attempts to exercise influence.
