ABSTRACT

Dictation can also be used by an individual without the help of a teacher/learning partner or parent, as follows.

The learner:

• reads the passage on to a cassette tape recorder or a minidisk recorder with playback facility

• plays it back, using headphones to listen to it sentence by sentence • re-reads the passage, using the proof-reading C-O-P-S and checking with the original

passage

These three sections use different learning strategies, a variety of tactics and different skills to teach, learn, rehearse and reinforce the use and meaning of root words, prefixes and suffixes. They represent differentiated levels of difficulty to match different spelling abilities.
