Is FDI integrating the world economy?

At first pass, the answer to the question posed in the title of this chapter is a resounding “yes.” Foreign direct investment-or FDI-has spread rapidly through the world economy in the past two decades. More countries and more sectors have come become part of the international FDI network. The high level and diverse forms of FDI represent an important force generating greater global economic integration.
