W e left Kazbegi chewing on this blend of contradictory impressions.Georgia, regaled as one of the world’s most hospitable nations, hadsupplied one of its most unaccommodating hotels. Georgia, the seething single voice of nationalistic rebellion against the Russians, seemed split within itself. Its Ossetian and Abkhazian populations sought separation, not from the USSR but from their old Georgian alliance.
