ABSTRACT

Badminton has many physiological similarities with other repeated sprint sports: short duration, high-intensity activity is followed by recovery periods throughout a match. Specifically, matches at the elite level vary in length between around 20 min to over 1 h. Average rally length is usually less than 10 s with rest periods typically lasting around 15 s. However, these figures vary with many factors including style of play, tactics and the level of competition. Additionally, the characteristics of match play are quite different between the sub-disciplines of the game (singles or doubles for both men and ladies).
