ABSTRACT

China is the second largest energy consumer in the world after the United States, accounting for nearly 10% of the world’s total annual energy consumption: its energy consumption is 11.5 times that of Japan and 3.3 times that of Canada. By 2030, the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts China will account for onefifth of the world’s total annual energy demand, as it is expected to grow at about 5.5% per year through 2020.
