ABSTRACT
The other chapters in this book have been concerned with political, economic and demographic issues. These issues were selected for their significant impact on Chinese society. However, apart from Chapter 7’s discussion of ethnic minorities, there has been very little explicit attention given to social issues and problems facing contemporary China. In this chapter, we highlight some of these issues.
