ABSTRACT
This chapter takes the form of a dialogue between the author and David Bell, at that time Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector. It raises questions about the origins, strengths and weaknesses of the New Relationship and focuses in particular on the interface of self-evaluation and inspection. It starts with a comment on the headline of a leaflet proclaiming ‘school inspection is changing’.
