ABSTRACT

Measurement is evidence and it enables to compare, contrast, assess, and re-evaluate all aspects of movement. The coach, teacher or therapist will take measurements that inform their practice and provide a variety of information. Measurement is very much concerned with assessment, identification, and the evaluation of movement. When measuring sport, activity and performance we are often interested in the amount of error that has occurred. Measures of error provide information about accuracy and they also provide information about performance. When undertaking kinematic analysis, data that are commonly collected are velocity, displacement and acceleration measurements. Velocity indicates the rate of change of an object or person in relation to time, displacement indicates the limb or joint changes in position, and acceleration indicates the change in velocity over time. Measurement is a crucial component of motor control, learning and development.
