ABSTRACT

The detection of biological molecules and processes often involves the use of radioactive, colored, luminescent or, most commonly, fluorescent labels. Fluorescence involves the excitation of a fluorophore with a photon of light at the excitation wavelength. The fluorophore then emits a photon of light of lower energy at the emission wavelength.
