ABSTRACT
In junior and secondary schools where social disadvantage is widespread there is quite a large group of working-class children who are defined as having Special Educational Needs (SEN) due to low levels of literacy and poor concentration skills or poor cognitive skills. These pupils are grouped in the School Action Plus category on the SEN register. As such these pupils receive support from outside of the school, e.g. an educational psychologist has made assessments of the pupils.
