ABSTRACT

One of the exercises in the LILLIPUT project materials, adapted from the Dublin city consultation process, asks participants to rate the following as typical of your region or city:

• falling levels of participation in local organisations and projects; • low election turnouts; • general apathy about politics; • feelings of isolation in the majority of citizens from local government

concerns; • a lack of active consultation processes that are worthwhile, meaningful and

consistent; • need to improve the capacity of local communities to strategically tackle

local problems; • need to rationalise participation and partnership structures; • a greater need for the transparency and accountability of statutory agencies.
