ABSTRACT
The Russian verb is a grammatically complex part of speech: if the most complex English verb (‘to be’) has eight separate forms (‘am’, ‘is’, ‘are’, ‘was’, ‘were’, ‘be’, ‘being’, ‘been’), most Russian verbs have Þ fty or more separate forms. Moreover, the Russian verb contains a large number of categories, many of which are either unimportant or do not exist at all in English.
