ABSTRACT

To indicate a part of a day the relevant noun is used in the instrumental case: у́тром ‘in the morning’, днём ‘during the day’, ве́чером ‘in the evening’, но́чью ‘in/during the night’. Russian has no noun that corresponds to English ‘afternoon’, and the equivalent of ‘in the afternoon’ is either днём or по́сле обе́да ‘after lunch’:

У́тром вы бу́дете ходи́ть на заня́тия, а по́сле обе́да вы свобо́дны. You will attend classes in the morning and in the afternoon you are free.
