MASKS!? IN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY!?
Ruth Mackenzie, in a speech in 2003 at the Chichester Festival Theatre, commented on how, in all aspects of British culture, everybody sought out the ‘new’ – the latest fashions, music, art, the hot film, the new magazine etc. Except theatre. Because, for all the developments in so many different areas of performance and culture, mainstream theatre has undergone virtually no change at all.
