ABSTRACT

The advances during those years have transformed laptops from a show-off toy or capricious business tool into something which makes you wonder why you bother with a big machine at all. Indeed, better-off students and sixth-formers don’t even consider humping some great awkward monitor, keyboard and hard-drive unit around at the beginning and end of each term; they slip their A4 laptop into the rucksack and saunter off with a couple of leads and a miniprinter the size of a Swiss roll.
