Mr Arkell warned his girl pupils that they might not manage to meet Nicola Horlick’s benchmark of combining five children and a high-flying career, and should ‘think carefully about what they want to achieve finally out of life . . . I have noticed that a lot of girls want to concentrate on work and put off getting married and having children till rather too late’.
