ABSTRACT
A pluralist culture Dutch culture in general is not very militaristic and the armed forces have always been relatively open to influences from wider society. Representation and employee influence channelled through consultative structures fit the cultural pattern to a high degree. The historical roots of this culture are long and so is the history of soldiers’ representation.
