ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses the historical and visual situations of the photographs of torture at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, which were made public in late April and early May of 2004.1 The historical analysis of the visual material necessitates the reproduction of some of the images and the difficulty of viewing these photographs emerges in various ways throughout this chapter.
