ABSTRACT

The role of the teacher ‘modelling leadership in the classroom’ is the starting point followed by understanding how to develop leadership in others. The ability to understand oneself and others and seek continual personal growth is vital to learning leadership. Developing leadership is far more than a training course or something you do on Inset day. It requires working through a spiral of three circles where an individual discovers an understanding of themselves and the essences of leadership; an understanding of others and the world they live in; and finally, an understanding of how to use their leadership with purpose and courage, to transform the world around them and by doing so transform themselves and enable others to develop their leadership.
