ABSTRACT

M EN MAY BE IGNORANT about ‘women’s bits’, anxious about theirpotentially leaking effluents and want to leave all that to the professionals. Not only do they know little, but they don’t want to know.

Those who have had no education for birth may be both embarrassed and frightened by the carnality of birth. Even men who have attended classes often think that they can manage birth – keep it gentle and painless with the right encouraging words and massage in appropriate places – and are shocked when they do not succeed.
