ABSTRACT
To create an effective learning experience in any classroom (whatever the school) the teacher has to be able to create a purposeful and calm atmosphere in which the momentum for learning can be built. The observer of an effective lesson will often describe a situation in which the teacher establishes high expectations of the pupils and sets up an agenda which challenges them. The best lessons have pace and rigour, which is just another way of saying they have good natural momentum.
