ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter has several aims. First, it provides a brief summary of the major findings from the preceding chapters. Second, it identifies similarities and differences in the empirical results. Third, the chapter assesses the relationship between the organizational structure of contemporary civil society and patterns of participation. Which organizational features affect participation? Fourth, it necessarily includes a discussion of the democratic implications of the empirical results. Finally, the chapter concludes with an assessment of the project’s relevance in the larger context of social capital and civil society research.
