ABSTRACT

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization provides the most important and broadreaching setting in which the transatlantic allies can address C4ISR technology and interoperability issues. Military planning in the European Union, though moving forward rapidly, is at too early a stage and insuffi ciently comprehensive to resolve interoperability problems today. In any case, the United States is not an EU member, making NATO the most important institutional setting in which transatlantic C4ISR issues can be discussed and resolved.
