ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the applications of learning journals in formal educational settings. While the focus is higher education, much could apply also to the school situation. We deal with journals in subjects or disciplines mainly other than those in professional or vocational subjects which are covered in the next chapter. There is a large overlap in the two chapters, partly because the notion of reflection and reflective practice from professional education has been drawn into the currency of thinking in general higher education (e.g. Barnett, 1997).
