ABSTRACT

Most students are expected to give short talks or presentations as part of their coursework; and applicants for employment may be expected to give a short presentation as part of an employer’s selection procedures. Then, in any profession, people in responsible positions may be asked, for example, to give instruction in a training course, to organise a presentation relating to new developments or new requirements, or to address a larger audience. Even in such different situations, the qualities required of a speaker are the same: knowledge of the subject, enthusiasm, simplicity in the use of language, and sincerity.
