ABSTRACT

If you have read our book AS Media Studies: The Essential Revision Guide for AQA, you will remember that we asked the question: ‘What kind of student are you?’ We divided students into two categories – active and passive. We explained that passive students were a real pain to teach because they were so heavily reliant on their teacher. They expected their teacher to do everything for them, including thinking. Ideally they would quite like their teacher to take the exam for them, providing of course that they managed to get a decent grade. We suggested that passive students were unlikely to do as well as they might expect at AS level because Media Studies is a discipline which seeks to reward students who do not rely on their teacher too heavily. It rewards the student who is prepared to think for themselves.
