ABSTRACT

The producer can be responsible for a range of different tasks depending on the movie making management structure. To facilitate the effective project management of movie making a task force style organisational structure, where levels of authority and responsibility are clearly defined, would be preferred. A stakeholder has decided that a movie could be made, possibly based on a draft script or concept. Movie making effort can be divided into phases where a phase transition represents the completion of activities/tasks, or relates to decision points, particularly whether or not to proceed to the next phase. Possible movie project phasing terminology is initiation, pre-production, production and post-production. Movie making is a legitimate project – it follows a phased life cycle, requiring improved definition as it goes; it requires a variety of resources; and it has constraints, objectives etc as do the more traditionally recognised projects.
