ABSTRACT
When James Hargreaves invented his spinning jenny in 1764 he was at the start of a process of change which we now know as the Industrial Revolution. Of course, at the time, he was unaware of the full in plications of his actions but he introduced a technology which changed how people work, and ultimately affected the very structure of society itself.
