ABSTRACT

Over the past ten years, action research projects of various sizes and scope have been carried out throughout Malaysia. Although the main aim of action research is to conduct collaborative inquiry for the improvement of educational practices, the nature of interventions for change and the action research approaches used, differed from project to project. The establishment of the Malaysian Action Research Network (MARNET) is an attempt to create a research culture and learning organization which links information exchanges, professional support and system facilitation to the teachers in schools. This chapter attempts to examine a number of action research projects in Malaysia and the learning environments which promote collaborative inquiry, educational improvement and teachers’ professional development.
