ABSTRACT

Some dictionaries associate the word “museum” with the idea of “relic,” “vestige,” and “souvenir.” Considering the popular use of these words, it may be possible to dismiss museums as repositories of notable relics of the past. Many have questioned the importance of museums and predicted an end to their usefulness. Some persons view commercialization as the only viable answer to the question of museum survival. They recommend a more businesslike attitude that is modeled around the entrepreneurial strategies of fiscal management and accountability.
