ABSTRACT

During two years of teacher education and my first year of teaching, I have written personal accounts of my teaching and learning experiences with a group of critical friends. Several of these papers have explored the relationships of some of the partnerships in education that can exist. For example, Peter Chin, Tom Russell and I have written papers that describe and outline the ways we study our teaching together through interactive electronic-mail conversations (see Chapter 10). In these conversations, we look at what we are able to learn from each other and how our interactions help us to improve our teaching in our respective classrooms. We are able to gain new insights from each other in terms of the universality of the issues that we face. We also find that a critical view from outside our own environment helps us to see how our teaching practices relate to our educational objectives. We are particularly interested in views that highlight ways in which our teaching practices may be counter-productive to our goals.
