Museum sector workforce survey: an analysis of the workforce in the museum, gallery and heritage sector in the United Kingdom

At the time of preparing this reader, the most up-to-date summary of the museums profession in the UK was that published by the Museum Training Institute (MTI). Based on a questionnaire survey, it provides some indication of the current workforce profile. It should, however, be borne in mind that in this survey MTI purposefully took a wide definition and included figures which related to jobs in historic houses and on heritage sites. Within the museums profession these are seen as complementary to, rather than constituent areas of, museum work.
