ABSTRACT

Although the theme of the conference is the conservation and analysis of archaeological artefacts, and a relatively small proportion of the National Trust collections are of this category, the principles of preventive conservation apply as much to artefacts as they do to the decorative and fine art collections which make up the main part of the contents of the National Trust houses. There are now some two hundred historic houses and castles in the care of the National Trust in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
