ABSTRACT

Museum collections containing natural history specimens, textiles or ethnographical material represent a potential food source for a variety of insect pest. Infestations, if not quickly eliminated, can result in serious and irreparable damage to collections (Dawson 1987; Stoate 1987; Zaitseva 1987). Current methods of protection against insect attack involve the use of a wide range of chemicals in display areas, cabinets, drawers and workplaces to deter pests from specific locations and to eliminate and control infestations.
