ABSTRACT
In this chapter we deal with the changes in the Hungarian housing system over the past four decades, and at the same time we offer a theoretical explanation of these changes. To understand the Hungarian housing system, we will start by describing the main forms of housing provision. This is followed by a description of the changes in the housing system during the different periods. Next we propose a hypothetical explanation of the transition between the periods. Finally we analyse the most recent developments and the political problems of the model change.
