ABSTRACT

Corrosion of rebars embedded in concrete depends on permanence of passive surface state. Chloride ion diffusion is one of the more important causes of corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete. There are oppinions about a lower chloride ion diffusion, when a blast furnace slag concrete (BFSC) is used. This could lead to the use of BFSC in situations where rebars are vulnerable to corrosion failure. Some of the concrete made in North Spain is relatively poor in cement content and is located next to the sea shore. This situation could to lead rebars corrosion if BFSC is used.
