ABSTRACT
European Architectural Heritage Year in 1975 (see chapter 15) stimulated a great deal of interest and activity at the local level, and did much to strengthen the growing public concern for conservation. But there was still a good deal of ambivalence among the planning profession in attitudes towards conservation, and a similar uncertainty about the government’s attitude, despite the excellent work done by MHLG during the 1960s.
