ABSTRACT

Every field needs its Arthur Jensen. Indeed, if psychology did not have one, we might have to create one. In some respects we have: the Arthur Jensen who exists today is in some part a creation of the field of psychology, the news media, and the mores of society in the latter part of the twentieth century. I will argue later that this fact challenges some of Arthur Jensen’s views regarding the nature of intelligence. In the meantime I will describe what I see Jensen’s role to be in and for the field of psychology.
