ABSTRACT
Although the editors of this volume asked me to approach Jensen’s work on mental chronometry with ‘a predominantly negative view’, I agreed only to examine it with a critical frame of mind, raising possible questions about its soundness, scientific importance, and interpretation. I could not commit myself to start with, and defend, a concertedly negative evaluation of this work: I intended only to review it from whatever perspectives I might deem warranted.
