ABSTRACT

The Hyatt Hotel is located in Birmingham across Broad Street from the International Convention Centre (ICC). The history of the area and a great deal of the background have already been covered in the first sections of the previous chapter. The origins of the Hyatt are very closely bound up with the ICC and in some senses the two should be seen as an integral package. An international convention centre needs a five-star hotel and this hotel, with Hyatt as operators, would not have been built without the ICC. The idea for a hotel was developed in the feasibility study for the ICC (Franks, 1983).
