Williams (op. cit. 211) says that, with respect to the epicurean properties of human flesh, it was the upper limbs, heart, liver, etc. that were praised. However, Tanoa's toast is interesting in respect of its sexual connotations, for here the virgin becomes at once that which slays and that which is 'eaten'. Cf. Sahlins 1983: 76, 1985: 89.
