ABSTRACT

Jim first came to see me in his late 20s because of phobias. He was primarily afraid of heights, and also of closed and open spaces, crossing bridges, losing his parents, being on a sphere in space, and the unknown. He asked, “Where did we come from, why are we here and where are we going?”, the same questions that we all ask when we are growing up, and many times afterwards. He also had a fear of having sexual relationships because he had grown up being made to feel that sex was bad and dirty. He later said, at the age of 47, “It all still remains a mystery to me.”
