WHERE does all this leave us? Where is Marxist criticism going? Where should it be going? There can be no single answer to these questions. The most that can be offered, at this stage, is a sketch of work currently in progress. Before embarking upon this, however, it may be helpful if we pause to review the central thrust of the argument so far.
