Requirements and aims

In project work the process of doing the work is of equal value to the artefact which is finally produced. It is during the process that your understanding of principles, theories and practical skills in communication must take place. The writing of a diary/report (referred to as a diary from here on) on your project provides the focus for such understanding. The AEB’s ‘A’-level in communication studies, for example, stipulates that: ‘At the end of each course each candidate must present a personal project file…. Each project must be accompanied by a short assessment written by the student of the objectives achieved and the problems encountered.’ But even if your course makes no such stipulations, it will benefit your understanding of the process of communication in which you are involved if you do keep a diary as you work.
