DESIGNER NATURE In November 1994, ‘the actress Mary Tyler Moore offered a $1,000 “ransom”’ to a restaurant in Malibu, California ‘that is keeping a 65-year old lobster in a tank. The lobster, christened “Spike”, is the star attraction at “Gladstones 4 Fish” restaurant. Ms Moore and the organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals told Reuter they want to have the twelve-and-a-half pound lobster returned to the waters off the coast of Maine. “Although I do not pretend to know how Spike feels living in a small tank…I am certain that by whatever means a lobster can feel and understand its surroundings, this one would prefer to be back home in his native waters.”’1
